At the heart of TerryAnn S. Howell’s journey lies a profound commitment: to leave a legacy of compassion and empowerment through giving back. For TerryAnn, the law isn’t just a profession; it’s a platform for meaningful change, a conduit through which she can extend a helping hand to those facing adversity.

Driven by her own experiences of overcoming challenges, TerryAnn, a native of the beautiful island of Jamaica, has dedicated herself to serving others. Her advocacy journey began as a Miami-Dade Assistant Public Defender and a Staff Attorney with Legal Services of Greater Miami. In these roles, she stood beside indigent individuals in their most trying times, navigating the complexities of both criminal and civil law to ensure justice prevailed. But TerryAnn’s dedication to community doesn’t stop there. Her involvement in the 41st Class of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Miami Program reflects her desire to lead by example, inspiring others to embrace service as a cornerstone of their lives.

Through tireless dedication, TerryAnn has woven herself into the fabric of numerous bar associations and community organizations. As the current president of the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association, she not only leads the organization, but she is also the Pro Bono Director handling landlord/tenant cases on behalf of the Association, exemplifying her belief in the power of legal aid to transform lives. Her prior service also extended to the boardrooms of esteemed nonprofits like Legal Services of Greater Miami, the ACLU Miami, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Florida Justice Center, and the Young Professionals Board of Riverside House where she advocated for the needs of the underserved and marginalized.

In her quest to break barriers and open doors, TerryAnn founded Grow, Glow, Giveback Corporation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting low-income individuals in pursuit of education. The TerryAnn S. Howell Book Award, established in 2018, stands as a testament to her unwavering commitment to academic excellence and community service. Her dedication to academic excellence is further demonstrated by her service as a judge on the Miami-Dade County Teen Court program.

TerryAnn’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. She has been honored with prestigious awards such as the National Black Lawyer’s Association’s Top 40 Under 40 Attorney in Florida, the Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, the Lawyers of Distinction list, and most notably the American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award for her service to the community. She was one of four recipients nationwide to receive this award. These accolades serve as validation of her relentless efforts to make a difference, to be a beacon of hope for those in need, both in and out of the courtroom.

TerryAnn has passionately advocated in many courtrooms across multiple states as a licensed attorney in Florida and Pennsylvania. She is also barred but currently active in the state of New York. Her legal journey spans various roles, including her current position as a solo litigation attorney at The Law Office of TerryAnn S. Howell, P.A. In this capacity, she focuses on Civil Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Real Estate Litigation, and Immigration matters. Previously, TerryAnn served as an Associate General Counsel at Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company. She was also a litigation associate at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, formerly Broad and Cassel, where she handled complex commercial litigation matters, securities litigation, asbestos litigation, and employment litigation. TerryAnn’s diverse experiences have equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of legal intricacies, enabling her to effectively advocate for her clients’ rights.

Beyond her professional endeavors, TerryAnn finds joy in adventure and connection. Whether skydiving through clouds, engaging in paintball battles, or embracing the camaraderie of CrossFit, she approaches life with a spirit of vitality and enthusiasm. Yet, amidst her adventures, she remains grounded by the love of her friends and family, cherishing moments spent by the beach or exploring new horizons.
