02 May Marlins Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition
On May 1st, 2021, the Gwen Cherry Park youth participated in the Miami Marlins Pitch, Hit, and Run competition. It was a one-day event for boys and girls ages 7-14, and they competed in trials that tested their throwing accuracy, baserunning speed, and hitting capabilities. Participants competed in either the baseball or softball division. They were given participation cards to keep on their persons throughout the event; the cards were used to record their times and scores at each portion of the Hit & Run competition. Participants moved freely and at their own pace throughout the competition. The children were filled with joy once Billy, the Marlins’ Mascot, arrived. Billy interacted with the families and children in attendance, heightening the feelings of excitement that lasted throughout the competition. After competing under the hot sun, the children relaxed and enjoyed delicious ice cream and a meal.
